Guideline for Tips

Tipping in the tourism industry in Tanzania is not a new subject, however, when and how much to tip can depend on many numbers of factors, including the specific situation, service, or even the location. Tips come as a separate package after you have paid for the safari and it is normally paid after our guest has received the service paid for. Tips are very essential incentive since it motivates and encourages people you are directly working within the safari. It is obvious that we recruit the best crew (guides both for safari and mountain, Porters for Trekking, and Chefs) but this does remove the right to offer tips for them.

As said in the paragraph above, the tips are entitled to guides both for safari and mountain, Porters for Trekking, Chefs, and any other person directly involved with your safari. Tipping is the language to express gratitude and appreciation to the one who will directly be involved in your safari. Again, tipping is very essential since it leaves a mark behind after you have left for your home country and pave a way for better service for the forthcoming travelers.

Eagle Vision Safaris recommends tips be handled directly to the respective person. This is to ensure that your wishes are being adhered to. It is okay to handle your tip openly or put it into an envelope. The tip can be divided evenly only if the services provided are equally satisfactory or otherwise provided in accordance with services provided by the respective person.

Factors for tipping

  • Satisfaction for the service provided
  • Number of days spent by the traveler with crew
  • Individual or group tour

Tips are taken differently between safari and trekking due to the nature of the activity carried out in the two industries:

Safari

Note:

Although Tips are highly recommended are not compulsory, relying on the performance received by the client the tips can start from:

  1. 20$ and above per guest per day for an individual guide/chef
  2. 10$ and above for a group guide/chef per guest per day

Kilimanjaro/Meru Trekking

Tipping while trekking in Kilimanjaro/Meru is not regarded as a reward unlike in safari. It is particularly regarded as a mandatory payment to subsidize payments given to guides and porters. The mountain crew has always had a big number of people compared to Safari that constituting of the following:

  • Chief guide (s)
  • Assistant guide (s)
  • Cook
  • Porters

Tipping to this crew normally starts as indicated below but is not limited to the amount since the service provided remains a determinant factor

  • 20$ per day per Chief guide (s) (*6 days 120 and or above)
  • 15$ per day per Assistant guide (s) (*6 days 90 and or above)
  • 12$ per day per Cook (*6 days 72 and or above)
  • 10$ per day per Porters (*6 days 60 and or above)

Mind you, the bigger the group the more economy of scale since you share the tips among the group. It is also okay at your own convenience to donate your mountain gears or clothing you don’t need carry back with you.
